All Romanian citizens will be able to travel to Canada without a visa starting December 1, the Canadian ambassador in Romania, Kevin Hamilton, said on Thursday, March 30.
Romanians who hold a valid visa for the U.S. or have received a visa for Canada in the last 10 years will be able to travel without visas from May 1.
“I want to dissociate the EU-Canada FTA (free trade agreement) from visa issues. These are complementary issues but not identical. We’ve negotiated with the Romanian Government the abolition of visas for Romanian tourists and it is a matter separate from the EU-Canada FTA. Canadian officials have assessed Romania and have seen the progress made in areas such as passports, regulating migration,” said the Canadian ambassador, according to local Agerpres.
In order to travel to Canada, Romanians will only need to fill in a form that can be found on the Embassy’s website, namely the Electronic Travel Authority. “It takes two minutes and costs seven dollars,” said the ambassador.
